Recommended Product: Coursera

I wanted to start a section on things I recommend, in case anyone is in need of something I am using at the time. I’m HUGE on education–being a former teacher, and all–and I use the site Coursera for my personal needs. Let me just say, as a learner this site gets me excited. It has everything you can think of, from technology training to in-depth history courses, to counseling and wellness training, to graduate course credit, and everything in between.

So how does it work? College professors from all subjects all over the globe–Ivy League included–develop full-length courses that are several weeks long. They record each lesson on video, and each video recording is transcribed below it. Many even have required readings, often hyperlinked to the site. And there are quizzes, too! Wait…that doesn’t get you excited??? It’s real learning in your time at your pace. It can’t get any better than that!

Many courses are free, which is helpful if you’re on a budget or simply learning for fun. Others are professional certificates or project-based completion, which can be helpful for anyone who needs to update their resume. I have often recommended the site to coworkers that are looking to re-enter the workforce in their former careers but are lacking up-to-date experience and training. I absolutely can’t say enough about this program! I am currently taking a 2-part Modern History course at the University of Virginia. Just for fun.

Happy hunting!
